"For I love soup and I love eating"
Monday, 03 August 2009 13:27
Homily of the St John Vianney Seminary's Rector at the solemn first Vespers of the feast of St John Vianney in the Year of the Priest.
One of the few things I can do properly in a kitchen is to make soup. What I love about preparing it is the pealing and cutting of many different vegetables. When I can afford it, I add some meat. I love soup, come winter or summer. At the bottom of this attachment to soup must be my love for eating. Our patron, whom we celebrate solemnly tonight, had a very rigorous life of penance, of mortification of the flesh. It is well known that he ate very little. He abstained almost completely from food. His main dish was potatoes, or a piece of hard bread, or on occasion a boilt egg. He slept two hours a night, mostly. And I love my sleep, too!

Servant of God Benedict Daswa: How to make a saint?
Friday, 17 July 2009 18:00
The universal call to holiness takes root in people in a particular time and a particular place. We all need models and what better way to model our Christian Life than on the lives and examples of the Saints. The first phase in the process for canonization (the recognition by the Church of the Sanctity of a particular person), is to recognize the "heroic virtue" of the life of the person.
