CIE (Catholic Institute of Education)

The Catholic Institute of Education’s (CIE) National Schools Office (NSO) contributes invaluable work in supporting the Church’s ongoing role in education by serving the Catholic schools’ network. A CIE NSO priority is to engage with the government, NGOs, civil society, churches and other faith groups in the development and implementation of education policy, while identifying and consolidating the character of Catholic schools.

The CIE NSO is committed to initiatives that redress imbalances in education to assist the development of disadvantaged communities and marginalised groups.

Capacity building of diocesan, provincial and regional education and school-based structures involves strengthening local leadership, particularly in Catholic schools and working in collaboration with other church and civil society structures.

Through the assistance of the CIE NSO, Catholic schools are enabled to contribute to the moral reconstruction and development of society through the active promotion of an education based on Catholic and social teaching. This assistance includes the development of policy, curriculum and resources; the personal, professional and spiritual formation of teachers; and the promotion of teaching as a ministry.

The CIE NSO also offers programmes to assist Catholic school communities in dealing with the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
